Help To Buy Could Help You Buy In The Village Of Aldermaston
20 Jun 2013

Linden Homes’ development in Aldermaston, The Willows, has been such a success that there are now just a handful of homes remaining.

This traditionally styled set of homes is unusual in that it is a new and small development in the centre of a village. It is situated on Fisherman’s Lane, next door to the Aldermaston Village Stores.

The unique location inspired Linden Homes to build these properties to blend in with the traditional village surroundings, so they are finished in a country cottage style with either mixed brick or rendered and painted cream. All the houses have gardens and some have their own garage.

There are now just a few of the three and four bedroom homes available. The three bedroom semi detached Hutton and there is a three bedroom terraced house.

All of the homes at the Willows qualify for the Government’s new Help to Buy scheme.

This scheme was announced by the Chancellor in the March budget and came into force on April 1st: It is a Government backed equity scheme that enables buyers to purchase a new home with just 5% deposit and a 20% Government equity loan – a loan that can be repaid at any time within the first 25 years and its interest free for five years.

And it’s a scheme that has been taken up with enthusiasm by Linden Homes’ buyers already.

Trevor Lepley bought his new four bedroom Linden home using Help to Buy – and was one of the first in the country to do so. He says he simply couldn’t have managed it without the scheme:

“There is no way I could have afforded a four bedroom house without Help to Buy. I secured a mortgage of 3.09% and my new home is only £90 more a month than the rent I was paying out for the two bedroom flat I was in previously - a flat that was a third of the size of my new house.”

Simon Pendlebury is the sales and marketing director at Linden Homes:

“I think once people start to look into the Help to Buy scheme, they’ll realise that many doors are open to them. Like Trevor Lepley, they may not have imagined being able to afford a three or four bedroom home of this specification or one located in the centre of a desirable village like Aldermaston. The scheme has been devised to make it easier to either buy your first home, or move up the property ladder and it is really worth investigating – especially when there are homes like those at The Willows that qualify for the scheme.”
