Why make Northumberland your home?

Filled with unspoilt beaches, rolling hills and rugged moorland, Northumberland is a county just waiting to be explored. The county may not have any major cities, but its largest town, Morpeth, has everything you’d expect from a modern, urban destination including a wide array of shops, restaurants, bars, and hotels. But undoubtedly, for those considering a new home in Northumberland, the county’s biggest draw is its vast and varied countryside. Stretching from the Scottish Borders to Hadrian’s Wall, and boasting a National Park, plus two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Northumberland’s wild landscapes are truly a sight to behold. The area’s rolling hills and quiet beaches offer some of the best walking and cycling routes in the country, while Northumberland’s 70 plus castle sites make for intriguing days out for all ages.

With its unrivalled outdoor space, plus excellent schooling, good travel links, and below-average population, Northumberland is a great place to call home.

Getting in, around and out of Northumberland

Despite being the northernmost county of England, Northumberland is easily accessible from all corners of the UK thanks to its excellent road and rail links. By car or coach, the A1 is the main road connecting Northumberland with the south of England, and Scotland to the north. Newcastle, Northumberland’s closest city, is a mere 20 minute drive from the county’s southern border. Within Northumberland, the 39 mile Northumberland Coastal Route, or A1068, offers one of the most scenic routes the county has to offer, running alongside the county’s award-winning coastline and through a number of coastal villages such as Seahouses and Amble. Alternatively, taking the A69 west will take you past Hadrian’s Wall to Northumberland National Park and the North Pennines.

By train, Northumberland is just over three hours away from London Kings Cross, stopping at a number of East Coast mainline stations along the way including Newcastle, Alnmouth, Berwick and Morpeth. By air, Newcastle International Airport offers flights throughout the UK, Europe, as well as Asia, the Americas and Australia.
