The phrase 'chocolate box village' could have been invented in Oxfordshire. This county is full of true English villages, surrounded by immaculate countryside, and of course, the historic city of Oxford. Revolving around its prestigious university, Oxford is also known as the ‘city of dreaming spires’, due to the architectural features that adorn the city’s skyline. As well as its many historic attractions, museums, and walking tours, the city also has a modern flip side, including the Westgate Centre, a new shopping destination that hosts many modern retailers, restaurants, a luxury cinema and indoor crazy golf. The city also boasts many independent shops, bustling cafes, pubs and bars, and regular live music events.
Away from the city, the Oxfordshire Cotswolds offers a wonderful place to relax and unwind. Rich in heritage, this area of natural beauty is home to the bustling market towns of Burford, Chipping Norton, Witney and Woodstock. There’s no shortage of things to do in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, with the area offering plenty of great days out for all ages, from exploring historic houses and gardens to golf and watersports, and of course, shopping in the many specialist shops, markets, and fayres. Anyone looking for a new home in Oxfordshire will find it impossible not to fall in love with this beautiful county.
Oxfordshire is extremely well connected by road and rail links, making travelling in, out, and around the county easy for all. Oxford train station provides regular services to London Paddington in under an hour, as well as services to the south including Basingstoke, Southampton and Bournemouth, the West Country and Wales, and the north, including Manchester. If travelling within Oxfordshire, The Oxfordshire Day Ranger pass offers unlimited off-peak travel for one day between Banbury, Oxford, Didcot, Reading and Moreton-in-Marsh.
By road, the M40, M4, and A34 provide easy access from London. The M40 also links Birmingham to Oxford from the north. Parking in the city itself is limited, however, five convenient Park and Ride sites are located close to the city centre. The A40 connects Oxford with Gloucester and Cheltenham and provides access to the heart of the Cotswolds.
For international airports, the Oxford Bus Company runs a frequent bus service called The Airline, to both Heathrow and Gatwick, while National Express runs a direct bus service between Oxford and Stansted.
