Family Gets Back On The Property Ladder With Help To Buy
12 Feb 2019

The government-backed Help to Buy scheme has enabled one Nottingham mother to get back on the property ladder in West Bridgford.

Lisa Warsop and her two children, Hope, 13, and Oliver, 10, were the first residents to move in to Linden Homes’ Wilford Fields development, off Wilford Lane.

After three years of renting a three-bedroom home in nearby Wilford, the 36-year-old financial advisor decided it was time to step back onto the housing ladder.

Having raised her family in Nottingham, Lisa was keen on staying in the area and moving closer to both the children’s schools and the city centre.

Lisa used the Help to Buy scheme to purchase a three-bedroom detached home at the development, which she hopes will serve not only as a family home but also a wise investment for her children.

She said: “I felt that renting was dead money, so getting back on the property ladder was very important to me and I wanted a home which I could invest in, knowing that Oliver and Hope could later inherit.

“This is the first new build home I have bought, but as soon as I moved in, I instantly felt settled – it was like I had lived there for years.

“It was certainly a little surreal to be the first resident on the development but buying off-plan allowed me to choose my own kitchen, flooring and bathroom tiles to make it more personal to me, which is one of the main advantages I found with a new build.

“We now have a lovely family home in an ideal location. Living in West Bridgford means I can now walk my children to school if needed, get in to the city centre easily and get onto the M1 more quickly.”

Using the Help to Buy scheme, Lisa was able to put down a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage. The remaining 20 per cent is provided as an equity loan, which remains interest-free for five years.

Help to Buy enabled the family to purchase their new home far quicker than expected and Lisa was delighted with how easy it was to use the scheme.

She said: “The Linden sales team did the hard work and I would highly recommend using their solicitors and the Help to Buy scheme. It’s a great scheme to help more people get on the property ladder.

“The whole process has been very smooth and as a family we were able to watch our home being built from the ground up, which was Oliver’s favourite part.”

A range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes are currently available at Wilford Fields.
