When couple, Jill and Ivan Martin started looking for their first home after renting for years, Linden Homes South’s Heathlands development in Frimley was a clear winner. The couple had been saving up to take their first step on to the property ladder and thanks to Help to Buy* found they were able to purchase their first family home in the idyllic surroundings of Heathlands.
Jill and Ivan particularly fell in love with the development, which offered everything the couple wanted, especially with their three-year-old daughter in mind. Ivan Martin explains: “I moved here from South Africa 18 years ago, I then met Jill and we married so we decided to stay in the UK. We have always rented, gradually moving slightly further away from London and busier areas. We had been looking at properties for a while and saw Heathlands quite early on in our house hunting. However, nowhere else compared so we came back for a second look and decided on The Buzzard, a three-bedroom semi-detached house with a wonderful garden. Having saved up for a deposit we were delighted that Linden Homes Help to Buy Scheme meant we could purchase our first home.”
The Martins knew they wanted somewhere that would be ideal to bring up their growing family. Apart from loving the layout and the situation of Heathlands and its beautiful surroundings they also wanted good local schools for their daughter and easy commuting.
Jill adds: “I just love Heathlands. We spent a while looking and considered a few places locally and further afield. Heathlands just had everything we wanted. Frimley is on the doorstep of great schools and shopping with the coast easy to get to as well. We live opposite the Golf Club and lovely forest land so the view from our garden is wonderful. I’m Cabin Crew so commuting for me is easy. For Ivan, who works in North West London, it only takes 40 minutes. It means we can really make the most of enjoying time all together in our new family home. With the amazing weather we’ve had this summer, we’ve really been making the most of our garden.”
As well as taking advantage of Help to Buy*, which with just a 5% deposit, first time and next time buyers can secure a home with a maximum purchase price of £600,000, the Martins also bought off plan. They were able to personalise their new home with a selection of interior options such as flooring and kitchens, enabling them to put their own stamp on a brand-new house from the beginning.
Ivan added: “We were able to choose our flooring and tiling to create our desired look and feel which was great. It gave us the best of both worlds, a brand-new house which we could add the finishes touches to and with such an amazing garden. I’m South African so all that was missing was a decent braai, a barbecue, which I’ve now bought and we’re making the most of. We have peace of mind for the future for our daughter and number two, which we’re planning, in a beautiful development in a great part of the world.”
