Homes more affordable than ever before
The very first question from new Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn during Prime Minister’s Questions concerned housing and how people can afford to buy their own home. It was at the top of the political agenda in the Commons because it is a priority and concern for many people across the UK.
At Northfields in Colchester, there are three beautiful new houses and one apartment at affordable prices still available – and they qualify for Help to Buy too. But these are the final remaining homes as this extremely popular and innovative development has almost sold out.
These homes are walking distance from the railway station so there are great links locally to Chelmsford, Ipswich and also into London Liverpool Street in as little as 47 minutes.
Karen Roake, sales and marketing director at Linden Homes Eastern said: “These homes are really attractive in terms of price and location and they become even more affordable if you use the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme. All you need is a 5 per cent deposit to secure one of the properties here and on Help to Buy, your monthly repayments could be as little as *£945 per month.”
Many of Linden Homes’ buyers have taken advantage of the scheme since its inception. Father of three Trevor Lepley is one of these buyers who bought his home at Northfields when Help to Buy was first introduced: He couldn’t believe what he was able to afford by using the scheme: “I’d been renting a flat in Brentford for two years and I was finding it a struggle to save for a deposit. I was over the moon when I realised I could afford to move from my rented two bedroom apartment to a four bedroom semi- detached house at Northfields…with just a five percent deposit.
“There’s only an increase of £80-£90 a month between the rent I was paying and the payments on the four-bedroom house I now own. The difference between owning this and renting feels amazing.
“I thought I would be renting for a long time unless I won the lottery or something,” explained Trevor, a performance analyst for JP Morgan. “Help to Buy is fantastic, it’s what people need. House prices are not cheap now. If someone had told me a year ago that I would be the owner of a four-bedroom house now, I would have laughed at them.”
