Linden Homes Highlights The Importance Of Training During National Apprenticeship Week

Apprenticeships have evolved over time, in the last few years especially, and are now defined as combining practical, or on the job training, as well as undertaking industry recognised qualifications.

Management trainees make up around five per cent of Linden Homes’ workforce. Speaking about the initiative, Bradley Davison, managing director for Linden Homes South West, said: “Our management trainee scheme combines on the job experience with formal qualifications, enabling people to start earning a salary whilst continuing with their education. Our specific schemes set out a career path but also give the opportunity to gain experience in each part of the business.

“It’s great to see the trainees qualify and excel in their chosen field. National Apprenticeship Week (4th to 8th March) provides a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of the trainees but also of the strong team supporting them. I started as a trainee quantity surveyor so I know first-hand how invaluable these initiatives are, especially when you have a committed team behind them.”

18 year old Brandon Ball from Torquay joined Linden Homes’ management trainee programme last year after deciding that the classroom was no longer the right path for him. Brandon had just finished his A levels and is now a trainee quantity surveyor working within the commercial department and is spending time with the other departments within the business: technical, land, marketing and sales, finance and construction.
Commenting on his time so far in the programme, Brandon commented: “The management trainee programme shows how the different aspects of the business work together to provide high-quality new homes within communities.

“I am so pleased that I came across the opportunity to work in housebuilding after my A levels. I’m doing a two year HNC in sustainable construction and the built environment at South Devon College and earning and learning at the same time. It’s been a great balance for me and I can definitely recommend it as a career path!”

Linden Homes is a member of ‘The 5% Club’, an employer-led organisation that works to inspire, educate and retain a growing body of people into “earn and learn” positions. The signed charter outlines the commitment to help the country’s growth agenda as well as playing its part in addressing youth unemployment and the widely talked about, skills gap.

The company is currently building homes in Exeter, Paignton, Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot, Blackawton, Plymouth, Swanpool, Barnstaple and Camborne.
