Homes, property and Help to Buy are very much on the news agenda at the moment: While the Governor of the Bank of England says he is watching the housing market closely, the Office of National Statistics is reporting an 8% increase in house prices in the last year.
Some commentators say the Help to Buy scheme is helping to create a bubble – but the Prime Minister has defended the Government led scheme, which has been running for just over a year: Mr Cameron called it a “well-targeted scheme that has helped tens of thousands of people get on the housing ladder and to have mortgages."
Essentially, buyers need to find a 5% deposit but can borrow a further 20% from the Government interest free, up to a purchase price of £600,000.
