The morning after your stag do might not be the best time to exchange on a new property.
But for recently married Lee and Sophie Andrews it worked out perfectly. They now live in a brand new three-bedroom semi-detached house at Velare Place, a small development by award-winning Linden Homes in sought-after Lower Sunbury, south-west London.
Sophie remembered their first visit: “We were blown away. We had seen quite a few properties in the same price bracket but this one had more to it; it felt like a home rather than somewhere just to live.”
After reserving off-plan, they were so pleased that Sophie recommended the development to her younger brother, Joshua, and his wife, Lucy – who quickly bought a home there too and actually beat Lee and Sophie to be the first to move in.
The Andrews, both 30, married in April 2015 and moved in the following November. Lee uses one of the bedrooms as an office to work from home as a recruitment manager, while Sophie, a communications manager, travels to work just 10 minutes away.
But the relocation close to the banks of the River Thames from their much smaller two-bedroom apartment in Ashford, Surrey happened almost by accident.
“We were not really looking for this house,” explained Sophie. “We stumbled across it. But we had a really good experience with the sales person. She told us it was sold but she showed us around the show home anyway and told us where there were other Linden Homes developments.”
Their chance came when one of the sales at Velare Place fell through. So it was that just three weeks before their wedding, Lee and Sophie were also dealing with the extra demands of buying a new property.
But it was worth it, as Sophie explained: “We had a very long list of things we were looking for; it was more of a dream list. But nearly everything about this house meets it. People say it’s very ‘us’, how beautifully finished it is, and they love the front door, in particular.
“We wanted to be somewhere that was quite quiet and well-connected. We are really close to Walton-on-Thames and Weybridge where we have lived before. We both like the area.”
Lee added: “It’s not about just the location, but that it is quite central: it ticks all our boxes and we have the best of both worlds. With all the connecting roads and trains we can get into the Surrey countryside and into London.
“We’re very house proud and like to host people for dinner. Our new house is great for us because we have the space to do it. It’s a gated development, which we like just for the security and it feels a bit more prestigious. There are about 40 homes in the development, which is what we wanted – something that was smaller.”
Sophie explained: “There’s a real variety and style to the houses. They’re not like cardboard cut-outs – Velare Place feels like it’s been here a long time.”
For buyers keen to follow in the Andrews’ footsteps, just nine homes are left to be snapped up. These include a five-bedroom semi-detached house in the Gagarin style, the Raleigh five-bedroom detached house; and the Hillary, a four-bedroom semi-detached house . Each comes with a 10-year NHBC warranty and a two-year customer care warranty.
