King Harry Park Provides Perfect Sanctuary From The City
27 Sep 2013

Matthew and Marianne Newman had been living and working in central London as Chartered Accountants since they left university. For six years they were based in Farringdon and for most of that they time lived together in their two bedroom flat.

Around about the time of the Olympics, the couple began to discuss the possibility of leaving the urban life behind and moving out.

With London riding on a wave of perhaps unprecedented popularity, (thanks to a heady combination of the 2011 Royal Wedding, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the hugely successful 2012 Olympic Games), Matthew and Marianne judged that it might be the perfect time to sell their London flat.

As they had predicted, their flat sold quickly, which meant they could start looking for their new home in earnest. And, as Matthew explains, it was a new home they were after:

“Both of us work long hours and travel a fair bit, so we decided that we would focus our search on new build properties: That way we knew we wouldn’t be presented with the problems associated with older properties and their constant maintenance. With a brand new property, you move in and everything is there, ready and working. The kitchen appliances in Linden Homes are already fitted and are guaranteed, for example. We also knew that with a new build home there would be no need for additional investment – so we wouldn’t have to pay for, say, a new bathroom in a few years’ time.”

The location was a simple decision too: The couple had a pretty good idea that they wanted to live in St Albans. This beautiful and historic city has the advantage of being just 25 minutes by train from central London:

“St Albans is excellent for commuters. It’s so quick into London. In fact often if you actually live in London, it can take you longer to get around the city than it does going in from St Albans. When you’re here, it feels like you’re in the countryside but at the same time we are close to the M25, which suits us as we can easily visit my parents in the South West and Marianne’s in the North.”

There were a couple of options for the Newmans in St Albans: Linden Homes has created Mosaic – a collection of chic apartments in the centre of the city and within easy walking distance of the station. But Matthew and Marianne were particularly keen on King Harry Park:

“We liked the idea of being next to Verulamium Park and to be honest, we only looked around a couple of other new homes in the area. I think as soon as we saw the house at King Harry Park, we were sure it was the right one.”

The Newmans visited the development twice, then, on the third visit they reserved their four bedroom home.

“From start to finish the whole process of selling our flat and buying our new home at King Harry Park was quite quick. The team at Linden Homes were very good at helping us with the process and made the whole thing pretty painless - there was no stress. And once we’d moved in they were very efficient. They even came in after the removal team had left and touched up the one or two scuffed walls that were marked during the move. We were very impressed with that. It was very thoughtful.”

So would Matthew and Marianne recommend Linden Homes to their friends?

“We already have recommended Linden Homes to our friends. In fact, we must have made a strong impression on two of them because, when we popped in to King Harry Park to measure up before our move last year, we caught them having a sneaky peek around the development! They didn’t know we were going to be there that day!”
