Following a recent re-launch by a mum on a mission, a parent and toddler group in West Ayton is now providing the village with a much-needed community facility.Following a recent re-launch by a mum on a mission, a parent and toddler group in West Ayton is now providing the village with a much-needed community facility.
The Derwent Ducklings Baby and Toddler Group folded in 2017 due to a lack of volunteers. However, a fundraising and awareness campaign by parent volunteer and group leader Sam Merron, has seen the group get back on its feet. Among the local businesses supporting the re-launch of the group, which meets at Ayton Methodist Church on Monday mornings, is Linden Homes East Yorkshire.
The company is currently building range of family friendly homes at Cayton Reach in Middle Deepdale, Scarborough. Work on the new 214 Northfield Meadows development at Seamer is due to begin soon. Sam and two-year-old daughter Eliza visited the Cayton Reach sales suite to collect a cheque on behalf of the company from sales executive Julie Skinner.
Sam said: “We are thrilled with the donation from Linden Homes, which will be using to buy a new bookcase and lots of exciting books for our babies and toddlers to enjoy. Stories and songs are an important part of Ducklings and we enjoy sharing a story-rhyme time at the end of each of our sessions.
“We have been lucky to have the support of Ayton Methodist Church and the local community who donated some lovely pre-loved toys. We would like to say a big thank you to Linden Homes, Scarborough Lions Club, Scarborough Round Table 88 and other local businesses who have all made generous donations, which have allowed us to get up and running.”
Linden Homes East Yorkshire sales manager Julie Hubbard said: “A huge well done to Sam and her team of parent helpers to get this much needed facility back up and running for the local community. We wish the group every success for the future.”
