A BINGHAM family, devasted by the tragic death of baby twins, will have the profile of the genetic disorder which claimed their young lives raised by novice runner Lynda Price.
Lynda, a sales executive for Linden Homes, based at Bluebell in Bingham, will be putting her best foot forward at the forthcoming Lincoln 10km Road Race, having been touched by the heart-breaking story of one of the development’s residents.
Lynda, who challenged herself this year to achieve something new, decided on running – having only ever run on the treadmill before - and signed up for the April 6 event, which attracts around 4,000 participants.
Armed with a Boot Camp style training programme and Paula Radcliffe’s ‘How To Run’ book, Lynda has another more emotive reason to complete the course.
Grandmother Lynn Earp was one of the first residents to move to Bluebell, to be closer to her daughter Heidi who was expecting twins in early 2013.
Following a healthy birth and a normal few weeks and months, the family later discovered that little Max and Leo were suffering from the rare genetic disease, Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Tragically, the disease claimed the life of both little boys at just six months old. Lynda said: “I had built up quite a friendship with Lynn as she was among the first residents to move in, and shared with me her journey of the euphoria of the birth of the boys and the utter devastation the family felt, and are still feeling, at their deaths.
“This is a big challenge for me as I have never run in my life, but after signing up I asked Lynn and Heidi if I could help raise funds into supporting families affected by this awful disease. As a mum of grown-up children myself, the heartache must be beyond imaginable.”
