New Showhome Opens This Weekend

A new showhome will open its doors this weekend as part of the first stage of a new residential community in Okehampton.

Award winning homebuilder, Linden Homes, has commenced building a new community, Abbeyford Rise, as well as creating large areas of public open space and a key link between Exeter Road and Crediton Road.

The first phase of 20 homes, 2,3 and 4 bed bungalows, off Baldwin Drive, was given planning approval in February this year.

The homes and the layout of the development have been carefully designed to create housing in a safe and high quality environment, with built in appliances and solar energy efficiency.

Nigel Palmer, Linden Homes Managing Director said : “We look forward to making new homes available at Abbeyford Rise. Our aim is to create a community of low maintenance, efficient homes, with unique recreational and amenity facilities on the doorstep.”

Built from brick and render, the style of the houses will complement the existing buildings and character of Okehampton, while still offering a contemporary design.

Describing the new community, architect Mark Timms from LHC said: “This is not an off-the-shelf design, but rather a carefully considered project that has been designed to create a sense of place and identity by integrating the architecture, public realm and wider landscape setting which I hope will benefit of the local community. As far as the style of the properties, they will be contemporary but ‘restrained’, to reflect the unpretentious character of existing properties in Okehampton. ”Two and a half acres of the 20 acre site will become public open space with play equipment, a trim trail and seating. A new road linking Exeter Road with Crediton Road will have a footpath and cycle route from the Okehampton Business Park to the established footpath network. Once completed, this new spine road will enable a new bus route to be provided by west Devon District Council.

The next 308 homes including apartments will be built in three further phases over the next few years.
