Linden Homes Wins Silver For Sustainable Developer Of The Year
25 Nov 2015

Linden Homes is continuing to strengthen its environmental credentials after being highly praised again at a national awards ceremony.

The top five housebuilder collected a silver award in the Sustainable Developer of the Year category at the WhatHouse? Awards – one of the industry’s most prestigious prize-giving events of the year.

The recognition was for Linden Homes’ sustainable approach not just to the environment but also apprenticeships, training and bringing benefits to the communities where its high quality new homes are built.

Stand-out examples in the shortlisted award entry included:

  • Graylingwell Park, Chichester, the UK’s largest carbon-neutral scheme for energy
  • Carbon emissions fell to 1.7 tonnes per £100,000 revenue, from 2.4 tonnes in 2013
  • Pioneering the UK’s first urban Community Land Trust in Mile End, London
  • A Sustainability Route Map with detailed annual targets for the next decade
  • Increase delivery of much-needed new homes by a third to 4,000 by 2018
  • Maintained high level of waste diverted from landfill at 94 per cent
  • Risen from 8th to 4th in the NextGeneration 2014 sustainability benchmark
  • Third year of the Linden Homes Foundation, dedicating £109,000 and 1,200 hours of staff time to community causes/charities nationally
  • Linden Homes National Apprentice Programme targets 500 apprentices within a few years.

The award adds to Linden Homes’ green reputation as it follows a “highly commended” in the category of Best Low or Zero Carbon Initiative at the Housebuilder Awards 2015 for the company’s low carbon Home @ Heartlands development in Redruth, Cornwall.

Andrew Richards, Linden Homes Group Managing Director, said: “It’s a huge achievement to have been ranked highly by awards judges for our sustainable expertise for the second time.

“It shows we’re very much on the right track and our efforts and results being recognised by industry experts. We want to build on these accolades and create even more homes that are even more sustainable, for our customers and communities.”

The WhatHouse? Awards results were announced at a gala luncheon ceremony held on Friday November 20th at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane. Now in its 34th year, the event attracted 1,700 industry professionals, its largest ever audience.
