During Mental Health Awareness Week (13 – 17 May), leading Housebuilder Linden Homes is lending its voice to the national Mates in Mind campaign, to help raise the profile of mental health issues within the construction industry.
The UK’s construction industry suffers widely from mental health issues. According to a survey of 3,400 construction workers by Randstad in 2017, 34% of construction workers have experienced a mental health condition in the past year, whilst two-thirds said they did not feel there are sufficient outlets to discuss mental health conditions.
As early supporters of Mates in Mind, a campaign led by the UK construction industry in support of the Health in Construction Leadership Group, Linden Homes continues to lead the way in developing a healthy and resilient workforce.
Throughout Mental Health Awareness Week, Linden Homes is continuing to raise awareness of the work that it does to build a culture of wellbeing and resilience, including activities and interventions delivered as part of its “Wellbeing Strategy”. This strategy aims to create a healthier, more engaged workforce, by investing in emotional, psychological, and social well-ness of staff.
This week, colleagues from across the business will be invited to take part in activities, drop in sessions, and continued training to help tackle issues surround mental health, and help to build a healthy work environment.
Head of Human Resources at Linden Homes, Paul Smith, said: “We recognise that the health and wellbeing of our people impacts the success of our organisation and we will strive to im-prove and enhance what is increasingly becoming known as 'whole person' wellbeing and resilience. This is part of the reason we signed up as a Supporting Partner of Mates in Mind, which aims to address mental health and stigma in the workplace through bespoke pro-grammes for the industry.”
