Linden Homes apprentice, Sean Lindsey is due to graduate this year as a carpenter, thanks to a unique partnership between Ofsted Outstanding training provider, PSC Training & Development Ltd. and the local homebuilder.
Based in Torquay, 20 year old Sean has worked on four developments for Linden Homes in the area over three years.
“I’ve got involved a wide range of jobs. Being able to look at something you've built has given me a great deal of pride. I feel great knowing that I have made a lasting difference.”
Sean was originally encouraged by his design and technology tutor at Torquay Community College, who was an ex-builder himself. Having completed school he wrote 15 speculative letters to local building companies until he was accepted onto the Linden Homes Apprenticeship programme.
The local homebuilder, Linden Homes, part of the Galliford Try group, works in partnership with PSC Training & Development Ltd. to deliver the scheme. PSC Training provide all of the relevant off-site training and support the employer and apprentice during the programme, including helping with grant applications, sourcing local and national funding opportunities and any associated paperwork.
Last week saw employers, parents, learners and training providers from across the country come together to highlight the successes of Apprentices and the huge benefits both in employing, and being an Apprentice, as part of National Apprenticeship Week.
Following his training, Sean is hoping to secure employment from the supply chain he has been mentored by.
