Thanks to Linden Homes, Gloucester’s budding young street artists will be given the opportunity to showcase their skills and create vibrant new art in the city centre.
The award-winning house builder has joined forces with Gloucester City Centre Community Partnership and Young Gloucestershire to develop an urban art project at the company’s Greyfriars Quarter development on Brunswick Road in the heart of the city.
Youth groups have been invited to develop artworks, reflecting life in the city, for display on the development’s hoardings facing the Via Sacre – which runs along one of the boundaries of the site.
Once Linden’s development is complete the panels will be auctioned to raise funds for Young Gloucestershire, to provide street based youth workers delivering education, training and social opportunities for young people in the city.
Sarah Hembrow, Marketing Manager at Linden Homes Western, said: “We recognise that street art contributes to Gloucester’s vibrancy and wanted to provide a creative outlet for the young people of the city. The project will create a talking point and bring a colourful and artistic feel to the otherwise plain hoardings.”
John McLaughlin, CEO of Gloucester City Centre Community Partnership, said: “This is a great opportunity for the young people of Gloucester to express themselves creatively and we are sure that it will result in some exciting interpretations of Gloucester life.”
Young Gloucestershire and Gloucester City Centre Community Partnership are enlisting the support of some well-known local artists to work with the young people. The first of the artworks have now been unveiled.
