Pupils from Exminster Primary School visited the building site at Linden Homes’ popular Milbury Reach development to find out more about housebuilding materials, as part of the national curriculum.
Tina Roberts, a teacher from Exminster Primary School said: “The pupils loved visiting the site. Being able to touch the different type of bricks and insulation makes much more of an impact on them than what they’re told about in the classroom.
“We had 45 pupils from year three attend the site visits; they loved getting dressed up in the safety gear and learning about the different methods of construction. The site managers were really patient and explained to them in great detail the process of building a home and the materials they used.”
Robert Baker, project manager for Linden Homes’ Milbury Reach development said: “We were thrilled to have the children visit site, their enthusiasm is infectious and it’s amazing how much they enjoyed seeing the diggers!
“The pupils are studying materials and their properties, so a building site is the perfect classroom for this topic. Milbury Reach is unique as we have a marketing suite which features samples of the boilers we use in our homes, the wall insulation, different kitchen units etc which made demonstration easy and brought the whole process to life for them.
“The school visit also provided us with a great opportunity to talk to pupils about site safety which is very important to us all.”
The school visit was arranged through The Community Foundation, which has been created by the company to ensure the wider benefits of its developments can be felt through the communities in which it works.
The development has been incredibly popular since it launched last year and attracts high levels of visitors. Currently available are a range of two, three and four bedroom homes.
