Developer Is Top Of The Class When It Comes To Homes Near Sought After Schools
29 Jul 2019

The schools may have only just broken up for summer – but when it comes to buying a new home, the pressure is on now for families looking towards the next academic year.

Research has shown that many parents are willing to pay over the odds to move to a property which puts them firmly in the catchment area of their preferred school.

And with September / October the crucial months for secondary school admissions for 2019/2020 – and January 2019 the cut off for primary school selection for the same academic year – there has never been a better time to do your homework if you are thinking of moving.

This means demand for properties will be high - and parents can expect to pay a premium for the privilege, as homes near good schools cost more than in surrounding areas.

In fact, according to a report from the Department for Education, buyers need to spend eight per cent more to buy near the best primaries, and seven per cent extra to be near top secondaries.

A report by Santander Mortgages (Aug 2018) also revealed that one in five people said they had to downsize to afford the area of their chosen school, and one in six relocated to a location which they didn’t otherwise like. A quarter took on extra hours at work to afford their new home, and one in four found themselves facing a longer commute to the office.

However, with Linden Homes Midlands carefully selected locations, home buyers across the company’s operating region are spoilt for choice when it comes to new properties close to excellent/good performing schools.

Research by the developer shows that there is an abundance of Outstanding or Good Ofsted rated schools across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.

Linden Homes Midlands sales director Vanessa MacNee said: “Everyone wants the best for their children in providing them with a decent education ideally at a school of their choice, close to home.

“Even though we have just entered the summer holidays, the secondary school admissions process will be here before we know it, and families who may be looking to move into the catchment area for a preferred school can get ahead of the game by acting now.”
