Determined To Get To Devon

Paul and Hazel Molineux, had spent a year refurbishing a grade two listed barn in Herefordshire and were determined to downsize to Devon to retire near their family.

They were the first residents to reserve at Higher Moor, a new development in Avonwick, after an 18 month hunt for the ideal home.

“We were looking for something with character that was low-maintenance. We quickly realised that we could plan our new home according to our needs with Linden Homes, who couldn’t do enough to help us with layouts and finishes. Having worked with builders in the past we were impressed by their attention to detail and consideration of our needs, even after we had moved in, says Paul.

“It’s a major step to down-size so we planned where everything was going to go and have gained a home that’s both unique and spacious with beautiful views.  We have only been here a couple of months but the house already feels like our home. We love the semi-contemporary feel about it which gives us a sense of where we came from. We’ve found  the added eco-energy design efficiencies work really well and significantly reduce the cost of running the house.”

Having now been in Avonwick for 12 weeks, the couple are taking advantage of visits from local producers who are making weekly deliveries to the new community. Close to the estuary and moor, they are enjoying their village base in reach of the market towns of Dartmouth and Totnes and cities of Exeter and Plymouth.

“Not having to do much in the house means we can concentrate on the garden and trips out which gives us great joy.”
