Beverley housing scheme marks biggest land deal in developer’s history
17 Apr 2019

An acquisition deal with a development value of around £180 million has now been completed on 90 acres of land which will provide 900 new homes for Beverley in East Yorkshire.

This marks the largest acquisition in the history of house builder Linden Homes East Yorkshire, with the land at Beverley South being developed jointly with Strata Homes.

It is expected that work will start on site this month, beginning with the construction of a new roundabout off Minster Way – with the first homes due for completion early next year.

The scheme will deliver a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes across the development, and a much-needed Park and Ride scheme for the town, at a cost of around £5 million, developed as part of the Phase 2 works.

Linden Homes East Yorkshire land director Matthew Barker said: “This has been a complicated scheme that has required extensive negotiations with the Local Authority, land owners and agents over a number of years in order to bring the scheme forward. East Riding Council granted planning consent for up to 900 units on the site this January.

“This site will deliver a backbone to our business with up to 10 years of development; and is the largest acquisition in the East Yorkshire business’s history.”

The proposed development site was identified as a key growth area within the adopted East Riding Local plan in July to provide a range of land uses including housing, employment, open space, a park and ride facility and associated infrastructure.

Summary of the proposals

  • Construction of between up to 900 new residential homes – both market and affordable.
  • New park and ride facility to provide up to 500 car parking spaces with connection to Flemingate.
  • Vehicle access will be via a new roundabout from the Beverley Southern Bypass.
  • New pedestrian/cycle paths will link green spaces and connect to the town.
  • Existing structural and tree belts will be retained and enhanced where appropriate.
  • New public open spaces providing recreational and amenity function for residents.
  • Areas designated for potential surface water run-off creating biodiversity opportunities and attractive landscaping.
