Aircraft Inspire High-flying Pupils To Win Show Home Name Contest
01 Jun 2013

Pupils at Great Rissington Primary School had their heads in the clouds for very good reason when they competed to come up with flying-inspired names for the new show homes at the village’s Victory Fields development.

The quality collection of three, four and five-bedroom properties is being built on a site with historic links to the Red Arrows, so the children had the idea to suggest names on the theme of aeroplanes and the RAF for Linden Homes Thames Valley.

They worked in small teams for the reward of a £20 book token for each child in the winning groups. The best three were historic aircraft names picked by Linden Homes Thames Valley’s sales and marketing manager, Sharon Eldred, who visited the school to present the awards on Friday May 17th.

Collecting a prize each were Elena von Speyr and Grace Taylor for “Buckingham”; Alex Hope and Faye Bedwell for “Whitworth”; and Jack Burroughs, Henry Smyth and Archie Sumner for “Hawker”.

Headteacher Liz Bannister said: “The children had great fun researching aeroplanes and came up with a lot of suggestions. The lucky winners will enjoy spending their book tokens and it was nice for them all to contribute to the character of Victory Fields.”

Sharon Eldred added: “Well done to the winners and all the other entrants too. Everyone put a lot of effort into coming up with such evocative names which made it very difficult to choose the best three.

“It’s great to have input from local youngsters into new homes so close to where they live. At Linden Homes we’re dedicated to involving the community in developments and the brilliant response we’ve had here helps to show why!”

The area around Victory Fields is full of character and history: from traces of Roman habitation through to the nearby military airfield, once home to the Red Arrows but now where the modern day RAF’s 637 Volunteer Gliding Squadron is based.

Main roads link to the motorway network giving access to the M40, the M4 and the M5. The nearest train station is at Kingham, from where services can reach London Paddington in about an hour and a half.

The first of the 300-plus homes at Victory Fields will be available off plan from Saturday, 8th June. The show homes will launch in September.
