A New Development At Linden Homes

Award winning housebuilder Linden Homes has appointed a new trainee development manager to join its busy team.

James Phillips, 20, from Torquay will be working with the company with time set aside to study. Nigel Palmer, managing director for Linden Homes explains: “The two year training scheme is designed to bridge the gap between education and full time employment. The on-the-job training will be complemented by attendance at South Devon College on a day release basis where James will work towards a HNC in Construction.”

After 10 weeks of work experience at Linden Homes, James secured the traineeship, where he will be job shadowing Adam Davis, senior development manager. His role involves taking a development site from the land team and preparing it so it can be handed over to the production team, which can involve anything from acquiring planning permission, briefing and appointing architects to dealing with some complex engineering issues.

Speaking about his new role, James said: “My parents both work in the housebuilding industry; after I enjoyed work experience so much it seemed like a natural progression to go into that field. I find working in the development department really interesting and I’m looking forward to progressing and one day earning the position of development manager.”

James attended Torquay Boys Grammar School and previously worked at the Ashburton Cookery School as a chef’s assistant. He lives in Teignmouth with his family in a Linden home, and loves playing hockey - he went to Australia two years ago to play for England U18s.

Linden Homes is committed to training young people in the housebuilding industry and recently announced the introduction of a new training and education hub in Paignton, in partnership with South Devon College.

The company is currently building homes in Exeter, Exminster, Okehampton, Westward Ho!, East Ogwell, Goodrington, Plymouth, Liskeard, Duporth, Grampound, Truro, Wadebridge and Redruth.
