A Housing Developer Has Submitted Plans For A Further 171 New Homes At A Village Site In Suffolk.
27 Jul 2021

Linden Homes – part of Vistry Group – wants to deliver the extra homes at its Cavendish View development in Thurston, near Bury St Edmunds.

The housebuilder has already begun construction work on the first phase of 87 properties at the development, which is located on land to the north of Norton Road.

If the plans are approved by Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils, a further 108 properties for private sale and 63 affordable homes for rent or shared ownership will be built on a 28.5-acre site. Linden Homes will build 162 of the homes, with nine plots being provided for self-build homes.

The second phase of Cavendish View will also include a public open space and play area at the northern edge of the development.

Jason Colmer, sales and marketing director for Linden Homes Eastern, said: “These are exciting plans for more houses on our site at Cavendish View.

“Thurston is classed as a ‘core village’ in the council’s local plan for housing due to the fact residents can access facilities to meet their daily needs without having to travel outside the village.

“The site at Norton Road therefore represents a suitable location for residential development to help meet the demand for housing and deliver much-needed homes in the Mid Suffolk district. Phase two at Cavendish View will feature a wide variety of house types to meet the needs of local people, from one-bedroom homes to five-bedroom detached properties and a selection of bungalows.

“The very strong initial interest from buyers in phase one is a sign of the high demand for properties at the development. One of the big attractions is the existing woodland next to the site which is set in open countryside.

“Another strong draw is that the development is less than a mile from Thurston railway station which has direct services to Cambridge and Ipswich. Easy access to the A14 also makes Cavendish View an attractive option for people commuting by road to Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Ipswich.”

The private homes for sale in phase two of the development will comprise 45 two-bedroom homes, 32 three-bedroom houses, 20 four-bedroom properties and 11 five-bedroom homes.

The affordable homes will consist of 10 one-bedroom houses, 35 two-bedroom homes and 18 three-bedroom properties.

While most of the houses will be two storeys high, the development will include 18 single-storey bungalows.
