Walton-on-the-Naze has a fascinating history, wonderful walks and nature reserves on offer – and is less than 2 miles from Frinton-on-Sea. It is one of the driest places in England and uniquely is surrounded on three sides by the sea. The Naze, as well as being a natural open space, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, famed for its fossils found in the Red Crag cliffs. You can enjoy a stunning variety of wildlife on one of the 2 hour Wildlife Boat Trips around the beautiful backwaters, or step back in time at the Walton Maritime Museum. Naze Tower is an 86ft historic landmark dramatically situated on the cliffs and houses a museum showcasing the history of the Tower and the Naze, with tea rooms and an art gallery. There’s walking trails galore, with the option to take a guided walk to learn more about the history and wildlife in and around Walton.


If you’re after traditional seaside entertainment with a modern twist, Clacton-on-Sea is the perfect destination. You can simply enjoy a day out at the seaside, the thrills and fun of the fair or take a delightful stroll through the award-winning seafront gardens. The largest town on the Essex Sunshine Coast, Clacton-on-Sea boasts a wealth of entertainment options, from the pleasure pier, arcades and seafront walks to the Westcliff Theatre, golf course, water sports and pleasure flights at the airfield. Clacton Pier offers six and a half acres of fun and entertainment including undercover and outdoor rides, arcades, a six-lane bowling centre, SeaQuarium, Boardwalk Bar and much more. For shopping, Clacton Factory Outlet has a great range of brands and independent stores with big discounts, plus festivals and live entertainment too. Just under 2 and a half miles from Frinton, Holland-on-Sea offers a quiet getaway from the busier crowds at Clacton. It’s the perfect place to take long walks along the coast and enjoy some bird spotting.


For attractions on an even bigger scale, head to Colchester – Britain’s oldest recorded town. Despite a rich history dating back over 2000 years, 21st Century Colchester is a thriving modern town with some fantastic visitor attractions. Family favourites include Colchester Zoo and Colchester Castle, along with great places to eat, drink and shop. Colchester town centre will satisfy the needs of every shopper, with specialist independent shops sitting alongside big name brands and department stores. You can explore the historic lanes, as well as enjoy the contemporary shopping arcades, take in the town’s main attractions such as the Roman ruins, great arts venues and galleries, and are spoilt for choice with places to eat and drink.
