TALENTED young scribes from a Peterborough school have been helping house builder Linden Homes add literary twist to one of its show homes!
To celebrate Peterborough’s Festival of Poetry and Literature, children from the John Clare School at Helpston have been honouring their famous namesake.
A selection of poems about, and inspired by the famous John Clare have been penned by the youngsters - and are now on loan to Linden Homes at the Poet’s Corner development in the village – where some of the house types have been named after other famous poets including Byron, Burns and Keats.
Not only do visitors to the show home and sales centre have the chance to see just what the development has to offer, but for a limited time will also have the opportunity to read some of the students’ work, penned by pupils from each class in the school.
Head teacher at John Clare Primary School, Rachel Simmons said: “We are very proud of the village’s literary connections, and the children enjoy finding out about one of its most famous sons.
“To be invited by Linden Homes to display some of the pupils’ work has been a real joy and we hope that visitors enjoy reading the poems – which not only celebrate John Clare but support Peterborough’s efforts to raise the profile of poetry and literature.”
Chris Roads, sales director at Linden Homes said: “We were delighted to invite some of the youngsters and teachers to our development and thrilled that they were kind enough to allow us to display some of their work – as part of our on going links with the communities in which we build.”
Poet’s Corner currently will comprise 42 three and four-bedroom homes in a private cul-de-sac setting.
