Fair Oak Junior School pupils get hands on with programmable mini robots thanks to donation from local housebuilder

Pupils at Fair Oak Junior School are getting to grips with modern technology and enhancing their ICT skills with the addition of 16 mini programmable robot kits, thanks to a donation from Linden Homes.

The pupils will build the robots from scratch, allowing them to acquire important skills that will help them during their school years and beyond. The robot kits will also bring into focus and help the children understand the necessity of ICT in today’s modern world by expanding their knowledge beyond the basics by tackling the art of computer programming.

Mr. Andrew De Silva, headteacher at Fair Oak Junior School, said: ‘We are most grateful to Linden Homes for this donation, the children are really enjoying building and programming the robots.

“It’s a great opportunity for the children to further enhance and extend their learning in ICT. With technology becoming more and more important in society it’s vital to encourage children to learn and enhance their digital skills from an early age, so we are always looking for ways to make it a fun and exciting learning experience.”

The donation from Linden Homes comes as the award-winning housebuilder’s new collection of homes at Limewood Grange launches to market in Fair Oak. A stunning collection of two, three and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom apartments, offering sleek contemporary design and spacious living accommodation, the homes have been perfectly considered for busy modern lifestyles.

Jo Dixon, marketing manager for Linden Homes South, said: “We are delighted to have provided Fair Oak Junior School with the funds to purchase 16 new programmable robot kits. With an increasing focus on all things digital, it’s important to help prepare students for their future by teaching them a variety of digital and IT skills from an early age and we are pleased to be able to support this forward thinking learning.”
