Linden Homes has been raising awareness of men’s health issues by taking part in Movember and by launching its own campaign among colleagues.
The Movember Foundation is a leading global organisation committed to helping to change the face of men’s health by improving the lives of men affected by prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems. Some Linden Homes employees grew some fantastic moustaches for the 30 days of November as part of the ‘Movember’ campaign to spark conversation and raise funds.
Linden Homes has also launched its own campaign among colleagues. With men making up a large proportion of the company’s on-site building teams, they were the right target group for a series of open and honest posters warning of the symptoms of cancer and offering advice.
The campaign highlighted testicular cancer and prostate cancer and rather than posters going up in the canteen where it was discovered they often weren’t read, they were put up in the toilets for a captive audience!
The tactics have been used before for a wide range of subjects such as hand injuries and cement burns. In a survey to find out how successful they were, it turned out 90 per cent of the men interviewed could recall the content of the posters.
Nigel Palmer, Linden Homes South West’s managing director, said: “On the building site we look out for each other all the time to make sure we’re working safely. It makes perfect sense to do the same for our health too – and it seems to be paying off.”
Nigel added: “We were pleased to take part in the Movember campaign as it was a fun way to raise awareness of a very serious subject and it definitely got everyone talking.”
