A charity golf day organised in Surrey by recent Ryder Cup sponsor Linden Homes South East has chipped in thousands of pounds for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Ninety two players and 120 guests helped to collect over £12,500 from a full day of activities at Foxhills Golf and Country Club in Ottershaw, which included a special guest appearance by former Premier League referee Graham Poll.
With £10,000 on offer for anyone scoring a hole-in-one, the day began with teams competing over 18 holes. Individuals vied for accolades for the best score, longest drive, nearest the pin, and even best dressed.
On top of the entrance fee and hole sponsorships, extra cash was generated for the charity funds through charges for buggy hires, team photos, buying a mulligan (a free extra shot), and the chance to try to “beat the pro”.
Blowing the whistle on the evening dinner that followed was guest speaker Graham Poll before prizes were awarded and a charity auction raised even more money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity needs to generate more than £50 million every year to provide world-class care for the 240,000-plus patient visits it receives annually.
Linden Homes South East technical manager and charity golf day organiser, Rupert Woodcock, said: “We’re very grateful to everyone who took part, had fun, and helped us to raise so much money for such a worthy cause. Donations are still coming in and we are anticipating the final sum will come in around £15,000.
“A great spirit and generosity was on show throughout the day and made it a great success and very memorable. At Linden Homes we work hard to get involved with the community, and I think this was a perfect example of the difference we can make. In December we plan to visit Great Ormond Street Hospital to hand over a cheque and meet some of the hardworking staff and their patients.”
Supporting the event were ball sponsors Coinfords, Foxhills, Signs and Designs, photographer Clive Bozzard-Hill, communications agency Remarkable Group and scorer Alan Green.
