Linden Homes’ new development at The Tannery in the village of Grampound welcomed its first residents to their new home just in time for the unexpected birth of their first child, five weeks early.
The first to reserve off plan, first time buyers Louise Vickary, 26, and Jason Perreck, 26, collected the keys of their brand new three bed home just in time for the arrival of Theo, just a few days later.
Primary school teacher, Jason explained: We were getting despondent about the fact that we needed a 30 or 40 per cent deposit to buy, which we were never going to be able to save while we were still paying rent, for what was poor accommodation.
We spotted Linden Homes’ Step Up scheme advertised for homes in Truro but by the time we got around to finding out about it they had sold out. So when we found out work had started at the Tannery we were delighted that the same scheme was available there as well and so we didn’t hesitate to reserve off plan.
We only needed a five per cent deposit – something that was far more manageable for us to save – and the process was smooth thanks to the simplicity of the scheme. We first went to look at the development in May and had the pick of the bunch.

Louise and Jason who both grew up in the area, are now just a walk away from Louise’s parents, who are pleased they’ve been able to settle close to them.
Louise said: Buying a home in the village wasn’t an option for us before The Tannery. Without help with the mortgage we, like other first-time buyers out there, wouldn’t have been able to afford our own home in this area. We looked at both new and second hand homes but we felt reassured that by buying a quality new home we wouldn’t run into any problems down the line. The 10-year NHBC warranty gives us peace of mind and I love the fact we have a lovely view in a home we can put our own stamp on.
