Dementia is now the leading cause of death in England and Wales, overtaking both cancer and heart disease. However, this month – fundraisers around the country are raising dough for dementia by supporting the charity’s annual Cupcake Day.

And no strangers to fundraising by selling cakes and bakes at similar events at the development are the sales team from Linden Homes Midlands’ Cawston development, The Spinneys.

Mum and daughter sales executives Heather Riley and Holly Jackson supported the national event by selling cakes to customers and contractors – raising around £75.

Heather, who supported the Macmillan coffee morning last autumn with an on-site cake sale, said: “We thoroughly enjoy supporting good causes, and have been overwhelmed again by the generosity of our fantastic visitors and customers, as well as the wonderful contractors and suppliers who work around the development.

“Our next fundraising event will be the Race For Life in aid on Cancer Research UK, when we will be joining head office colleagues for the event in Peterborough later this month.”

The charity is hoping to further boost coffers this year, adding to the £2.7 million raised since the first Cupcake Day in 2016.

Proceeds from the event will be ploughed into support and research. Figures from the Alzheimer’s Society:£50 could provide five hours of in-depth Helpline team support to give people in their time of crisis.

£150 could pay for two people with dementia to attend Singing for the Brain sessions for a year – where them and their carers can join together for an hour each week to sing and dance with music.

£610 would pay for a Doctoral Training Centre to run for one day, helping up to eight PhD researchers to carry out ground-breaking study in dementia research.
