Linden Homes Welcomes Government's Plans To Boost Housing (Eastern)
07 Sep 2012

Linden Homes Eastern’s Managing Director, Mick Laws has welcomed the government’s plans to boost the housing market.

The Prime Minister has announced a series of measures aimed at supporting businesses, developers and first-time buyers, while slashing unnecessary red tape across the planning system. They include removing restrictions on housebuilders to help kick-start stalled projects, making £10 billion available for development, and pledging £280 million to extend the FirstBuy scheme which provides first time buyers with a 20 per cent deposit to make their first step onto the housing ladder.

“I’m pleased to see the government formally backing our housebuilding industry which is crucial if we are going to significantly boost the economy. The announcement is a vital step in the right direction and what this country needs,” he said.

“It’s vital we have a planning system which encourages growth to not only provide much-needed new homes, but also to create a significant number of new jobs - providing huge social and economic benefits right across the country.

“Reinvigorating FirstBuy will provide hundreds of first time buyers with the confidence that they can make a leap onto the housing ladder – boosting demand for new homes. We will now be looking to actively support this initiative when funding is made available.”

Mick added: “What we would like to see now is a commitment to educating buyers that there is help available to them. Along with FirstBuy, the government’s NewBuy scheme is also available to all buyers across the country on homes up to £500,000.

“At Linden Homes we have also made affordable lending available on houses and apartments with a range of 85, 90 and 95 per cent mortgage products in partnership with high street lenders on offer across our developments.”

Linden Homes, with its regional head office at Rainsford Road in Chelmsford, is currently building quality new homes at developments across Essex, including its scheme Burntwood Square in Brentwood and Northfields in Colchester.
