Linden Homes Thames Valley Golf Day Bags £7,000 For Hospice Appeal
19 Aug 2015

A fundraising golf day organised by award-winning housebuilder Linden Homes collected £7,000 for the Sobell House Hospice Charity in Headington, Oxford.

The event on Friday July 24th pitched 16 teams of Linden Homes Thames Valleys’ contractors and suppliers against each other in friendly rivalry at The Springs Hotel & Golf Club in Wallingford.

The result smashed the amount raised at last year’s charity golf day when £5,500 was raised for children’s and young adults’ hospice Helen & Douglas House, in Oxford.

This year’s funding was presented to the Sobell House Hospice Charity, which supports the Sir Michael Sobell House Hospice in its mission to provide palliative and end-of-life care to the residents of Oxfordshire.

As well as the main four-ball team contest, there was a series of extra challenges including longest drive, nearest-the-pin and “golden ball”. The fun day concluded with a three-course dinner, an awards ceremony, and a charity raffle and auction to add even more money to the pot.

Sobell House Hospice Charity trustee Hugh Fraser joined in the golf and made a speech during the day to thank the fundraisers and highlight the good work done by the charity.

The hospice currently costs around £4 million a year to run, much of which is raised through the support and generosity of individuals and companies throughout the community.

Kelly Houghton, corporate fundraiser for Sobell House Hospice, said: “Sobell House Hospice relies heavily on the generosity of our supporters in the community. We are delighted that Linden Homes chose us as their charity this year and want to thank everyone involved in organising the event, and those who took part for raising this amazing sum of money.

“The donation will help us to maintain the invaluable work of the hospice in providing palliative care and support to both patients and their families. We couldn’t carry out the vital work we do without the support of individuals and companies such as Linden Homes.”

Peter Carpinelli, Linden Homes Thames Valley managing director, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who took part and generously helped us to raise even more money than we did last year.

“Sobell House Hospice Charity does such an important job supporting the hospice and its services which benefit people from all across Oxfordshire. As part of the local community, we were very proud to do our bit to help.”
