Leading housebuilder Linden Homes has raised a staggering £18,000 at its charity golf day for Children’s Hospice South West and Devon in Sight.
Key stakeholders were invited to the event where they played golf at Torquay’s 18 hole golf course. There was also a hole in one competition to win a BMW, a putting competition, a raffle to win an iPad and an auction.
Nigel Palmer, managing director of Linden Homes said: “Last year we were thrilled that our first golf day raised £8,000 and wondered how we’d beat that total again; we are absolutely delighted that our second charity golf day was such a resounding success. Not only was the event fun for everyone involved but we were spoilt with the beautiful weather and managed to raise a huge sum of money for two very worthwhile charities.”
Children’s Hospice South West, Linden Homes South West’s charity of the year has three hospices near St Austell, Barnstaple and Bristol. The hospices are open to families with children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and help to build precious memories and offer much-needed support.
Naomi Dymond, corporate partnerships fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West said: “The event was so much fun and we were blown away with the amount of money raised. Two children from Little Bridge House painted some pictures for the auction and Fred Champion Groundworks bid £5,000 for them – the families just couldn’t believe it!
“We need to raise more than £8 million a year in order to run our three hospices and we are almost entirely funded by voluntary donations, so each and every penny raised makes a huge difference to the families we support. We would like to thank everyone who helped make the day such a success and for helping us to continue to make the most of short and precious lives.”
Devon in Sight is a local charity that provides practical help and advice to people affected by sight loss to maximise their independence, wellbeing and choice. Based in Topsham, near Exeter, the organisation offers a Resource Centre with a range of equipment and training to help people to adjust to their sight loss. It also has a Volunteer Visiting Service in Torbay that carefully matches volunteers to people with sight loss supporting them to live independently in the community.
Grahame Flynn, chief executive at Devon in Sight said: “Devon in Sight is a local charity for local people and so the money raised will have a real impact on the vital work we do. We had a fantastic time at the charity golf day and were thrilled to be involved. We can’t thank everyone at Linden Homes enough for raising so much money by having fun.”
Linden Homes is part of the Galliford Try Group, Official Supplier to The 2014 Ryder Cup and another charity golf day is already being planned for next year.
