Linden Homes Paves Way For School And College Leavers As GCSE And A Level Results Are Released
21 Aug 2018

With school and college leavers up and down the country receiving their GCSE and A Level exam results, top-10 housebuilder Linden Homes South based in Guildford, is offering an alternative to university with its Management Trainee Programme; a comprehensive training scheme that gives school and college leavers the necessary skills and qualifications to have a successful career in the housebuilding industry.

The programme covers all aspects of the housebuilding process from the initial land buying, all the way through to the selling and marketing of the newly-built homes. Although trainees will focus on one area of the business, they will have the opportunity to complete departmental rotations to gain a valuable insight into how the business works as a whole.

Linden Homes has found that often students and their parents do not realise the opportunities that are offered in the housebuilding sector and those who have followed the Linden Homes management trainee programme have been delighted at the career progression and pay opportunities under one roof.

Through Linden Homes' Management Trainee Programme, Jemima Marsh (20) who is a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, has been able to find her feet in the sector and find out more about the career she wants to pursue.

After finishing her studies at Godalming College where she secured three A-Levels, Jemima was unsure of her next move. Much to her surprise, she found herself in the construction industry when she was appointed as a Business Administration Apprentice in Linden Homes’ Customer Care team. Just a few months into this role confirmed that this was the industry for her, and one that she wanted to progress and excel within. From there, she decided that she wanted to join the Management Trainee Programme.

Jemima comments: "Within my role in customer care, I learnt a huge amount about the industry and the business. From liaising with the existing quantity surveying team as part of my customer care position, I discovered that the quantity surveyor job role really appealed to me and one that I wanted to gain experience in.

“The team was really supportive when I suggested joining the Trainee Programme and upon starting it was ensured I was visiting development sites and getting the right kind of exposure straight away. The Linden Homes team is one that you can feel confident you will progress within, and my colleagues have continued to do everything to ensure I am supported and receiving the best guidance."

Phillip Chapman, Managing Director at Linden Homes South, commented: “For those who have or are just about to receive their results and are not all that sure on your next step, I’d encourage you to look at the other options that are out there. We have a variety of diverse roles outside of the expected ‘normal’ construction jobs, including land purchasing, planning, sales and marketing, technical, quantity surveying and customer service”.

On top of equipping trainees with the relevant skills and experience to have a successful career, the Management Trainee Programme also offers a number of other incentives including a competitive starting salary, trainees will benefit from an annual bonus scheme, private healthcare and discounted gym memberships.

The Management Trainee Programme is open to anyone with 5 GCSE’S at 4-9 grade, including Maths and English. BTEC, A Levels and equivalent vocational qualifications are also welcomed. For more information visit the website.
