Linden Homes' Golf Day Raises £31,200 For Local Charities!
23 Jun 2016

Linden Homes’ fourth annual charity golf day has raised a staggering £31,200 for the Torbay Holiday Helpers Network and the East Devon and Exeter branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Key stakeholders were invited to the event where they played golf at Torquay’s 18 hole golf course. There was also a hole in one competition to win a BMW, a boating lake challenge, putting competition, a raffle and an auction.

The auction prizes included a signed Cristiano Ronaldo shirt, a Joe Calzaghe signed boxing glove and a framed picture by artist Sarah Ezekiel, 49, who lives with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and uses eye tracking technology to create her work.

Nigel Palmer, managing director of Linden Homes, said: “Last year our golf day raised £20,733 and we really didn’t think we’d be able to beat that total again. We are absolutely delighted that this year’s event was such a resounding success - not only was it fun for everyone involved but we managed to raise a huge sum of money for two very worthwhile local charities.”

Cynthia Hopkins, volunteer for the MNDA, said: “The Motor Neurone Disease Association is indebted to Linden Homes for raising such a fantastic sum. The money will support people in the local area dealing with this dreadful condition, paying particular attention to communication devices. It must be horrendous when you are not able to communicate verbally, so anything that can improve the situation has to improve the quality of life.”

MND is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. It affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time.

Luke Tillen, founder and managing director of the Torbay Holiday Helpers Network (THHN), said: “It has been nothing short of an honour for THHN to be one of the recipients of the funds raised from this incredible event. Without such incredible support shown to our small charity, it would not have been possible for us to provide nearly 700 families, who are living with serious illness and bereavement, with very special memory making holidays. These holidays give them memories to treasure forever and the money raised will allow us to continue to do so.”

The Torbay Holiday Helpers Network provides free holidays to families who have seriously ill children, families who are recently bereaved - having lost a child or parent - and to families who have a terminally ill parent.
