Linden Homes Awards Student At Solent University Degree Shows
03 Jul 2018

For the fourth year running, Linden Homes has awarded a Solent University student with the Linden Homes Interior Decoration Award at the annual Art, Design and Fashion Summer Degree Shows. The event provides a platform for the BA (Hons) Interior Design Decoration students to showcase their final year projects, based on an agreed brief with the course team.

Jo Dixon, Marketing Manager for Linden Homes South spent the afternoon judging the incredible work created by the students and awarded Rosie Last, 22, the Linden Homes Interior Award. She was presented with a £100 Amazon voucher and her work will be brought to life in a local Linden Homes show home.

Rosie said: “It feels really good to have my work recognised by an industry professional and to know all the long hours and hard work I put into this has really paid off! This is the second time we have worked with Linden Homes and I feel like I have a real gist of the brand and the company. It’s great to have my work recognised by them and is something I’m really proud to be able to add to my CV.

“I can’t wait to see my designs come to life in a Linden Homes show home! Knowing that my designs will appeal to the buyer profile Linden Homes has in the area is great”.

Rosie presented two different concepts with one taking inspiration from classic children’s poems and current vintage trends. Using these themes, Rosie hand drew animals and clothing to create the pattern. The second concept took inspiration from working women and the theme of embracing women, which she expressed through large vibrant flower patterns and colours.

Jo said: “The quality of the students’ work is incredible. As always it’s a really difficult one to judge because the hard work and effort the students have put in is outstanding. I feel privileged to be asked to judge their final projects and honoured to be able to see the magnificent work the students have produced.

“Rosie’s work really stood out for me; the children’s wallpaper designs with the animals was not only innovative but really current and unique. I feel she has really captured the design ideas we would use in a show home and it’s perfect for the audience we want to attract. It was a tough decision as always, all of the work was of such a high standard but those animal designs really caught my eye!”

Charlotte Black, 21 and Chelsea Young, 20 were awarded runner up prizes. The exhibition showcased the unique skills taught on the course and how the students have learned and built upon new skills and experience.

Lydia Southwell, Solent University, BA (Hons) Interior Design Decoration Course Leader guides the students to develop the necessary skills to become a fully-fledged interior designer. The course draws upon industry expectations and professional practice, as well as real-life ways of working in industry.

Lydia said: “As always, we are grateful for Linden Homes’ support and appreciate Jo’s time and commitment. The three prize winners were thrilled, seeing their work recognised by industry gives them a sense of reassurance. It also helps to define the standard of work and sets the bench mark for future students to achieve.”
