It's Hats Off To Theatre Group - As Developer Helps Performers Tread The Boards
12 May 2016

When it comes to treading the boards, as important as the performers, props and the scenery is wardrobe - so when a local theatre group had a costume request, Linden Homes obliged.

Answering a call for help from the Pocklington-based Wolds Wonders Theatre Group, Linden Homes North has taken centre stage in providing a dozen hard hats for the charity’s performers to use in a forthcoming production.

Formed in 2009, Wolds Wonders is a musical theatre group for budding actors and singers with learning difficulties, and live in and around the Pocklington and Market Weighton area.

The group’s latest production Follow That Dream is the tale of a budding young dancer who pursues his passion by taking part in a talent contest.

The hats will be used during a music sequence in the opening scene.

Martine Bantick – who is a resident at the Linden Homes Wilberforce Manor development – moved to Pocklington a year ago, and volunteers for the group.

She said: “We have close to 30 members and we are looking to expand the group’s coverage. The work which we do is fantastic for helping those involved to grow in confidence, from taking up new skills and challenging themselves to performing in front of an audience.”

Martine added: “When I moved to Pocklington I was keen to get involved with the local community. It is a great place to live – so much so that my daughter has purchased a house at Linden Homes’ neighbouring development The Balk.”

And if like Martine, you would like to volunteer to help out at Wold Wonders, the group would be delighted to hear from you. It meets each Wednesday at the Pocklington Arts Centre, and more details are available from Martine on 07872 186632 or Ged Leach on 07813 156346

The arts centre is also the venue for Follow That Dream – with a one-off performance taking place on Wednesday 25 May, curtain up at 1.15pm. Tickets priced £4 are available from Pocklington Arts Centre.

Julie Hubbard, Linden Homes North sales manager, said: “When we received the request from Wolds Wonders for loan of the hard hats we were delighted to be able to help. With two developments in Pocklington, it is key that we are able to give something back to the community.

“We wish everyone involved with the production the very best for this performance and for the future.”
