Leaving the comfort of their show home and sales office for a gruelling 10km tough mudder-style obstacle course are sales executives Alex Rymer and Hannah Sheppard.
Teaming up with site manager Paul Douglass, the trio from Linden Homes North’s Bradley Meadow development in Market Weighton, will tackling the muddy mission in Leeds on March 20, as part of the Major’s Events series.
The course will feature surprise ‘concept zones’ which take on military themes, with participants faced with crawling through muddy tunnels, having their senses bombarded with smoke, explosions, unexpected smells and sounds, tackling stench trenches and much more.
Paul and his brother Neil will be using the challenge at Bramham Park, which they are undertaking on behalf of British Military Fitness York, to raise money for Hull Royal Infirmary’s ICU and neurosurgery wards.
Paul said: “The hospital treated our mum last year after she was diagnosed with a brain haemorrhage and needed surgery.
“This is a frequently fatal condition, but the nurses, doctors and surgeons offered the best care possible, operating in order to stop further bleeds to her brain. Mum is now making a full and speedy recovery.
“We would like to show our appreciation to the staff on these wards by raising as much money as possible.”
Alex added: “Hannah and I know this is a cause very close to Paul’s heart, and we are happy to support him and his sponsorship by making this a team event. However, we have to admit to being slightly anxious about what’s in store!”
Paul and Neil are already well on their way to meeting their £1,500 fundraising target. Anyone who would like to sponsor them can do so through their online charity page https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/paulneilmajorseries
