Honeystones Creating A Buzz Among Cotswolds Downsizers
09 Dec 2015

With the over-55s currently holding £1.2 trillion of property wealth, older home-owners’ thoughts are increasingly turning towards finding the right answer to the downsizing question.

According to the figures compiled by retirement income specialists Age Partnership, by 2035 that asset value is set to double to almost £2.5 trillion.

As well as releasing much-needed housing for younger families, finding the right destination for a downsizing move can unlock savings on energy bills and free up time previously spent on maintenance and gardening.

In fact, research from the National House-Building Council show that new homes built to current regulations could cost 55 per cent less to run than typical 'upgraded' Victorian homes – saving £1,312 for a typical four-bed detached new home.

Steve Garton, sales and marketing director at Linden Homes Thames Valley, said: “Downsizing needn’t mean sacrificing space – it’s often more about making the value of your current property go further.

“In fact, downsizing means different things to different people, which is why the right answer can vary widely from customer to customer. Some want literally to downsize; others want smaller gardens and energy bills.

“A new-build home can often be the way to downsize without sacrificing quality, location, or the feeling of a home with space to breathe. Plus, we have a range of schemes that can take the strain out of moving. We’re ready to offer advice and help for anyone considering it.”

Honeystones, a development of new homes for sale in the Cotswolds village of Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, is an example of the kind of high quality home buyers could relocate to without sacrificing quality and a sense of space.

The collection of 50 three, four and five-bedroom private houses from award-winning Linden Homes is just off Station Road; a stroll from the centre of the bustling village of Bourton-on-the-Water – known as the Venice of the Cotswolds for its bridges over the River Windrush

Off-plan buyers who act fast will get the first choice of properties at Honeystones, which is set to be a green and leafy neighbourhood. Features include traditionally-built dry stone walls, retained historic hedgerows, two large, grassy open spaces and a wildlife pond.

One of the options there is a four-bedroom detached house in the Bybrook style. With a dual-aspect living room, garage and master bedroom with en suite, it’s of a scale for households to step down to but without losing out.

In common with all Linden Homes’ developments, each property at Honeystones also comes with both a 10-year NHBC warranty and a two-year customer care warranty.
