A world championship gold medallist who won more than 40 caps for the GB women’s ice hockey team says her young family have hit the back of the net with their Binfield new-build.
Nicola Lazarczuk, who was recently appointed assistant coach for the GB U18 Women’s team, has moved into a four-bedroom home at Linden Homes’ Blue Mountain location, with her husband Simon, son Alfie, 11, and daughter Nancie, 21 months.
The forward, who won 43 caps for GB between 1999 and 2008, said the home move was a game changer for the family, as she started teaching at a nearby school earlier this year, and it is also close to Alfie’s school. They now have a home office and a garden – worlds away from the space they had in their previous two-bedroom flat.
Nicola, who plays in the English top tier with Bracknell Queen Bees, said: “I got into ice hockey when I was younger when my Grandad, who used to support the Wembley Lions team, saw in the local paper there was an ice hockey team in Slough. We went to our first game and were hooked. I originally started as a figure skater but soon converted! I played on the boys’ teams initially at Slough and went on from there – to play for Great Britain Women’s.
“We’re delighted with the move into our Linden new-build and can’t believe we have a garden! Moving from a two-bedroom flat to this is incredible. The garage is epic too! Simon and I are both excited to have our own private outside space and are looking forward to summer barbecues and family get togethers.
“Alfie enjoys his room and is looking forward to inviting friends over once we are allowed to host. Nancie loves the stairs! Having never had to experience them before we now have two flights for her to adventure. Our top floor bedroom is amazing too!
“We lived locally in Warfield, for about five years, so are familiar with the surrounding area. There is an easy commute for work now for my son and I and most of our family is close by. We are really appreciating the green spaces available to us, particularly during lockdown.”
Nicola is a health and social care teacher, and also coaches PE, at The Brakenhale School in Bracknell. She praised Linden’s support through the moving process and said there was a great community spirit at Blue Mountain.
“We couldn't believe that we were able to view a four-bedroom detached property with a garage, within our budget! It seemed like fate as we hadn’t initially planned to go for a new-build, but found that it suited all our needs in terms of layout, space, a garden, garage and community spirit. From the moment we viewed the property, the Linden sales team was amazing. They kept us updated and were on hand for any queries, allowing us into the property to measure things and have a good look around – they have been supportive throughout the whole process and no question was ever a problem. The building team was also very accommodating and ensured we got everything sorted quickly and efficiently.
“We have enjoyed meeting our neighbours, even though we were socially distanced, and are looking forward to sharing more sociable times in our gardens together! We have a community WhatsApp group where everyone can be as much or as little involved as they like. Bracknell town centre isn't too far away, along with the local supermarket, and there are lots of local restaurants offering take away and delivery.”
