Downsizing To Boxgrove Gardens Proves To Be A Smooth Operation For Retired Surgeon
15 Aug 2012

Moving to a smaller property after living in the same house for 30 years would be enough to ruffle anyone’s feathers – but 79-year-old Michael Newell, a retired consultant oral surgeon, was left entirely unflustered by his move to Boxgrove Gardens, Guildford.

Speaking from his new two-bedroom apartment in one of the town’s newest and most desirable neighbourhoods, he said the change had been uncomplicated – apart from the mountain of cardboard boxes left over from moving day!

Boxgrove Gardens is a development by Housebuilder of the Year Linden Homes and comprises a prestigious collection of stylish houses and apartments spread out among beautifully landscaped greens and winding, tree-lined pathways.

Michael decided to downsize there from his old four-bedroom house just half a mile away where he had lived with his wife before she sadly died three years ago.

Not long after starting his search, he happened to be passing Boxgrove Gardens with his daughter and dropped by to have a look – and particularly liked one of the popular apartments whose windows look out across the pretty central park.

He said: “I found myself rattling around the house, and despite being smaller the new apartment still offered space and the sale would provide me with some finance. I talked it through with my son and daughter and decided to go ahead with it.”

He added: “It was very nice looking. The size of the rooms was good, it was light and airy and it overlooked the park, with its trees and grass, which was obviously an attraction.

“It’s more manageable and it’s released some capital – the apartment fitted the bill nicely. Linden Homes have a good name for well-built homes and this lived up to their reputation.”

He arrived at his new home with it already decorated to his taste with carpets and curtains, thanks to Linden Homes’ Enhance scheme in which buyers have a face-to-face consultation in a studio to decide on their preferred look before they have even moved in.

Boxgrove Gardens comprises one and two-bedroom apartments and three, four and five-bedroom signature homes designed by award-winning architects John Thompson & Partners to be luxurious, contemporary and full of character.

Airy roof conversions, timber detailing, spacious balconies, and floor to ceiling windows are surrounded by lush, green, modern gardens and framed by mature trees and shaded, winding walkways.

For property-owners tempted by the development, Linden Homes offers its Part Exchange scheme where eligible buyers choose from a selected range and within seven days a valuation on their property will be made by three local estate agents and a cash offer made.

The only thing left to do then is set a move-in date and get packing. In the second half of last year 321 Linden Homes buyers used Part Exchange around the country.

Boxgrove Gardens’ final phase has been released with five two-bedroom apartments in The Copse – a modern-style three-storey block featuring a top floor property that enjoys access to a roof terrace.
