Cosying Up In A New Home This Autumn Will Instantly Winter Proof Your Property
08 Oct 2020

Getting cosy in a new home this autumn will winter proof your property and save money on the bills!

Reserving a new home now with Vistry Yorkshire (part of Vistry Group) will give you plenty of time to snuggle up before the clocks go back, and get settled before the colder weather kicks in.

A new home at this time of year will also certainly result in savings when it comes to utility bills; thanks to economic boilers, insulation and double-glazing.

However, a new property built to current energy saving standards and regulations could dramatically reduce the costs compared to an older counterpart – resulting in savings to spend on life’s little pleasures!

According to the House Builders’ Federation, new build home owners will spend on average £443.30 a year (£276 heating / £108 hot water / £60 lighting) - well under half of the £1,072 the owner of an older home can expect to spend – saving, on average, £52 a month, or £629 a year.

Savings could be spent on:

  • A season ticket at their favourite Premier League football club
  • Paying their monthly broadband and mobile phone bills
  • Taking a return trip to New Zealand
  • Buying a latte coffee from Starbucks every working day of the year
  • Covering almost a month’s mortgage costs

Vistry Yorkshire is currently building at locations in North, South, West and East Yorkshire, with styles to suit all tastes and budgets. As well as a series of incentives including Help to Buy, Part Exchange and the Key Worker package to help curb the cost of moving, the Government’s Stamp Duty holiday on all homes up to £500,000 until 31 March 2021, means a potential further £15,000 saving.

Vistry Yorkshire regional sales manager Melanie Parker said: “We’ve got some fabulous homes across the region which are ready to move into now and in the run up to Christmas.

“The huge benefit is that customers could move in as little as four weeks – which means they can be settled in before the arrival of winter.”

Some eco-advantages and savings tips:

  • Most new homes have thermostat-controlled heating - turning down your room thermostat by just one degree can save around £60 a year, says the Energy Saving Trust.
  • Vistry will fully draught proof your home. Figures from the EST show a fully draught proof home could save around £25 a year. Don’t forget to keep doors closed in rooms you are using to keep the heat in.
  • Boilers account for around 55 per cent of what is spent on energy bills in a year. Your new home will have a shiny new super energy efficient one.
  • Turning off the lights will lead to a £15 a year saving but switching to LED bulbs will save £40 a year.
  • All the toilets in Vistry properties feature a dual flush to help conserve water usage.
  • New homes will be built with the recommended insulation throughout the home – so no need to check and upgrade.
