PEOPLE often wonder what happens to show home furniture once the jewel in the development’s crown is sold.
Well, in the case of Linden Homes Midlands’ popular Orchid development in Oakham – it has been donated to a very worthy local cause.
With its head office in Peterborough, the company has been a long-standing supporter of the city’s Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall appeal – which is aiming to raise a massive £6 million for a new hospice.
Thorpe Hall provides specialist palliative care aimed at improving the quality of life for those living with, or affected by, a serious illness. The appeal has recently broken through the £2 million mark.
Regional fundraiser Nilesh Patel was invited along to the Oakham development to collect a range of ex-show home furniture and home furnishings for use in the hospice, or to donate for sale in the charity’s shops.
The list of items included; dining table and four chairs, sofa, double bed, single bed, lamps, cushions, bedding and various ornaments.
Linden Homes area sales manager Bev Bray said: “We often re-use our show home furniture at various other developments, but in the case of Oakham, we decided to donate it to Sue Ryder and the Thorpe Hall appeal.
“Many people in and around the area will know about the hospice and the appeal, and indeed may have been touched by its work in some way.”
Nilesh said: “We are grateful for every donation we receive, and are particularly thankful to Linden Homes for their support. Many of the items are in pristine condition and could be used in the current hospice – any which are not needed will be donated to our shops and sold to raise more funds.”
Over the past 12 months, Linden Homes has already raised around £4,300 for the appeal, from events including a charity golf day, dress down day and cake sale – and says it will continue to support the charity.
