Business Students Sent To The Top Of The Class After Naming Developer's New Site
15 Jan 2014

AWARD-WINNING developer Linden Homes has successfully enlisted the help of business students to produce a brand, identity and name for a new site in Huntingdon.

Saxon Gardens will be the name for the company’s new development on the town’s California Road – adjacent to Huntingdonshire Regional College.

After inviting business students to become involved in the initial stages of planning the name and the overall concept for the development - and giving them the opportunity of some hands-on experience – the youngsters visited the site (where building work on 180 new homes is due to begin in early 2014) to meet members of the Linden Homes team.

Sales manager Warren O’Callaghan said: “When we issued the invitation to the college we had no idea of just how much research and work the students would put into the project.

“Their creativity and inspirational ideas were fantastic and we are thrilled with the outcome – not only that we have a wonderful new development name, but that Linden Homes has been able to offer some valuable experience to the students as part of their studies.”

Course tutor Ali Paine said: “A group of 15 Year 2 students were given the opportunity of designing a name and logo for Linden Homes, carrying out research into the company and taking into consideration its corporate colours, existing names and logos and company ethos. They also researched the history of Huntingdonshire to get inspiration for their work.

“They worked very hard and created some excellent pitches to send to Linden Homes.  They enjoyed the freedom of creating a product from scratch and relating their work to a “real life” project which will develop within the local community.

“College principal Susanne Stent said: “We are extremely grateful to Linden Homes for giving our students the opportunity to work with them, by developing these links with employers and the local community we can ensure our students are gaining valuable experiences they can take forward into their careers.”

All students – studying for a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business - received praise, but those to come up with the winning name and design for Saxon Gardens are; Joshua Benyai, Jack Lilley, Grant Williams and David Skuburs.
