Business Secretary Witnesses Linden Homes' Investment In Twickenham Constituency
16 Apr 2013

The Business Secretary, Vince Cable, visited Linden Homes’ development in Teddington to see for himself the housing, jobs and investment it has brought to his constituency.

The Liberal Democrat cabinet member and MP for Twickenham was given a guided tour of the apartments and houses at Wallis Mews by the managing director of Linden Homes South East, Steve Bangs, and sales and marketing director, Emily Nesbitt.

The one-hour visit on Friday April 5th was a chance for Linden Homes and Mr Cable to discuss key issues such as apprenticeships to solve the skills shortage, support for housebuilders to provide the extra new homes the country needs, and how the new government backed ‘help to buy’ scheme will reinvigorate the housing market.

High up the agenda was explaining to Mr Cable how the Linden Homes National Apprenticeship Programme is aiming to have 500 trainees on the scheme nationwide within the next three years.

Mr Cable said: “Housebuilding is crucial to our economic recovery: it generates jobs, creates apprenticeships and provides homes that we desperately need. I was delighted to see all these benefits being delivered at Wallis Mews in my own constituency, particularly the 50% affordable provision which is being made available through the Notting Hill Housing Trust.

“The Coalition is committed to the success of housebuilding and I was pleased to hear that our recently announced Help to Buy scheme is being warmly welcomed by Linden Homes.”

Steve Bangs said: “It was a pleasure to show the Business Secretary around one of our Teddington developments so he could see first-hand the benefits housebuilding has brought to his constituents in terms of jobs, homes and investment.

“We discussed the importance of apprenticeships because without passing on skills to the next generation we will struggle to build the houses that families urgently need.

“At Linden Homes we take particular pride in the high proportion of local companies we work with on our developments, we also spoke about how housebuilding can energise local and national economies by kick-starting spending among local businesses.

“We are always very keen to invite local MPs and neighbourhood leaders to see our developments, ask questions and challenge us. Involving the community isn’t just something we say – we mean it.”

Linden Homes South East has contributed to several good causes in the region, such as donating Christmas gifts for the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity in Leatherhead and supplying football kit to Greenwich and Bexley-based Junior Reds Football Club. Linden Homes has also been a long term supporter of the ‘Children’s Trust’ based in Tadworth, Surrey.

It also provided its developments as drop-off points in a nationwide appeal last year for sports gear in partnership with Kits 4 Causes. The equipment was used for community projects in the UK and Africa.

Wallis Mews is a stunning selection of contemporary one, two and three bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses in an area full of village character with independent shops, restaurants, bars and pavement cafes yet within easy commute of London.
