Bright Future Ahead For Solent University Interior Design Student
10 Jul 2017

A Solent University student has been awarded the Linden Homes Interior Decoration award at the universities Art, Design and Fashion Summer show, which showcases fantastic pieces from a diverse range of creative mediums fashioned by the Southampton based students.

Linden Homes has partnered with Solent University for the past four years providing the BA (Hons) Interior Design Decoration students with invaluable real-world experiences that’s given them a great stepping stone towards their future careers.

Linden Homes South Marketing Manager, Jo Dixon, spent the afternoon judging the awe-inspiring work created by the students and awarded Emma Molley, 26, with the Linden Homes Interior Design Award. She was presented with a £100 Amazon voucher and the opportunity to work alongside Linden Homes’ interior design team, Show Business Interiors.

Emma scoped the top prize in the ‘surface’ category. With a keen interest in using hard materials, she created three dimensional designs in a range of hard and soft materials creating innovative compositions.

Emma said: “I really wasn’t expecting to win as there were so many good designs. To have my work recognised by an industry professional is such a compliment and the fact that some of my materials will be featured in a Linden show home is amazing. I’m also looking forward to getting some industry experience which will really benefit me when I come to apply for my first job.”

Eve Morgan, 21, and Lee Puddicombe, 22, were also awarded runner up prizes. The exhibition showcased work created by the students and perfectly portrayed the unique skills taught on the course. Lydia Southwell, Southampton Solent University Course Leader guides the students to develop the necessary skills to become a fully-fledged interior designer.

The course is produced in conjunction with industry expectations and is linked to professional practice, which Linden Homes has helped provide over the last four years and has seen previous students, much like Abigail Burden who won the Linden Homes award last year, go on to have successful careers in the industry.

Jo Dixon, Linden Homes South marketing manager commented: “We are thrilled to be back judging this great show again. I was blown away by the talent yet again and feel privileged to have judged some magnificent pieces created by the students. The talent at the show was undeniable and it felt great to have played a small part in the student’s development.

“Emma really stood out for me as her worked was not only innovative but showcased a wide range of design techniques really demonstrating the skills she’s learnt over the three-year course. It was a tough decision as all the work was of such a high standard but Emma’s work really caught my eye.”

Linden Homes has a number of homes for sale across the South of England.
