THERE was no getting in a flap for youngsters at a nursery in Sandy – after developer Linden Homes issued them with a challenge of designing a house for feathered friends.
Children from Treetops Nursery rose to the creative challenge of drawing, designing and even building their own birdhouses – in keeping with the theme for the housebuilder’s new development in the town.
Award-winning Linden Homes will be building a selection of 32 homes at the forthcoming Kestrel Ridge development close to Station Road – using the nearby renowned RSPB sanctuary as inspiration for the site’s name.
And looking to take the association one step further, while engaging withthe local community, Linden Homes enlisted youngsters in a nature-inspired initiative.
The children have spent several weeks putting their creative talents into practice, which resulted in a visit to the nursery by Linden Homes’ area sales manager Warren O’Callaghan to judge the amazing entries.
Warren said: “As a developer new to the town, it is important that we engage with the local community, and we were thrilled that the Treetops Nursery children rose to the birdhouse design challenge.
“The children have presented some truly fantastic and imaginative designs – which made the task of picking the winners extremely difficult.”
Vouchers for the top entries were presented to individual children, while the nursery received a story sack – a puppet-based colourful story telling aid – as a thank you for taking part.
Nursery manager Gaynor Lloyd said: “We’ve had great fun with this challenge – not only have the children been putting their creative talents to use, but we were also able to talk about nature, explore the local environment and habitat. In addition, the children have been excited to hear about new homes being built with diggers and other big machinery.”
Kestrel Ridge will boast an impressive variety of two, three and four bedroom family homes, and while the development won’t be officially launched until later in the year, home hunters have the chance to register their interest now – and benefit from the many advantages offered through buying off plan.
The development’s close proximity to the town’s railway station makes it a desirable commutable retreat into London, with stations on route via Biggleswade, Hitchin and St Neots – as well a boasting excellent road links to the A1 and A1(M).
