To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year, the residents of Wickwar have been holding a series of events, thanks to the support of Linden Homes and many other local businesses and organisations.
The celebrations have been organised by the Wickwar entertainment committee – a small number of residents who feel passionately about their village and seek to bring the community together.
The events included a royal tea party for 150 children in a marquee, the lighting of the village beacon, a tree planting, a ball, a beer festival, family fun day, church service and celebratory lunch, as well as a community art project. The initiative involved individually designed tiles by local children and adults that had been digitally printed onto porcelain and then mounted for a mural at the King George V playing fields.
Honie Wintle from the Wickwar entertainment committee said: “What a fantastic time we’ve had! It’s wonderful to provide events for the enjoyment of the villagers and neighbouring communities, and to bring the new and old part of the village together. We’d like to thank everyone for their help as we wouldn’t be able to bring this about without the support from sponsors such as Linden Homes. It’s been a huge success and we couldn’t be prouder of Wickwar and it’s incredible community!”
Sales and marketing director, Sue Scholfield commented: “We were delighted to donate money towards the events and it’s been amazing to see such a strong sense of community spirit in Wickwar. Events like these create incredible memories, especially for the children, and we were very pleased to be involved.”
Linden Homes supports many community initiatives near to its developments and is creating homes locally at Saxon Gate. The development features 90 homes and is located on the southern edge of Wickwar, just off Sodbury Road and Horwood Lane.
