At about this time every year, Christmas illuminations are being designed, draped and arranged; snowmen and reindeer are being carefully positioned and strings of fairy lights are being swathed across trees and buildings around the country – ready for the big switch on.
And as the vogue continues for ever more intricate and spectacular Christmas decorations, houses - and even entire streets - across the UK now attract hundreds of visitors who travel some distance to see the festive displays.
Welwyn village is planning its own spectacular display again this year and Linden Homes is contributing £1000 towards the event. The Christmas lights will be switched on at 5pm on 1st December. While they provide a warm, festive glow, villagers and visitors will be offered yuletide treats: mulled wine and mince pies: Christmas for all the senses.
The Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Councillor Lynne Sparks will be there to see the lights go on and she will be joined by local residents and business who have contributed to the spectacle – as well as by those who are there to just enjoy it.
Linden Homes’ contribution has been used to buy enough coloured LED fairy lights to adorn the trees at three key focal points in the village: At the Civic Centre; on Lockley’s Drive and in St Mary’s churchyard, at the heart of the village.
